Arkaan (also known as Arkanium or Starmetal) is a dull black metal acquired from fallen meteorites. Civilizations old and new have developed alloys, weapons and objects made out of the dark metal due to its rarity and connection to Voidspace. Arkaan is not naturally found deep within Abmarah, its "ores" only being found near impact craters. Most Arkaan ore found is actually used in the creation of Orichalcum or Azbantium, because its rare to have enough of it in one place to have a pure ingot of Arkaan. The metal is not as rare and considered uncommon within Voidspace.
Arkaan is notoriously hard to shape into curves, and naturally prefers straight lines and polygonal shapes. Despite that, expert smiths have long held the skill to shape this angular metal into curved forms such as scimitars. When the metal is fully enchanted, it glows a deep red instead of black. Arkaan does not corrode easily, but if it does corrode, the resulting oxides have a bluish tint to them.
Arkaan is well suited to destroying aberrations as it is thought that the metal originated from the same source as them. While it is as tough as iron, it is much lighter and has a supernatural speed to it. However, it has not found widespread use because of the rarity and price of the metal, with multiple meteorites rich in starmetal needed to form even a single usable ingot. Most Arkaan items found are treasures from the fallen Temporal Empire, who were one of the first smiths to temper starmetal out of meteorites.
Its lightness has given rise to a belief that the metal is simply "faster" than steel, and making ship hulls out of it would aid in the vehicle getting faster.
In the Temporal Empire, almost all basic voidspace soldiers had black swords. However, as an soldier received more honors and moved higher up in the ranking, their sword was reforged by the "Spellsmiths." The hilts of the weapons became more decorated and intricate in design higher up in ranks. The artificer Yizuko Xoe forged the scimitar Stormdancer out of an Arkaan meteorite for Laoch Redfield.
Armor (Any Medium or Heavy, Except Hide Armor), Rare (Requires Attunement)
This magical armor is reinforced with Arkaan, a dull black starmetal from Voidspace found mostly in meteorites. While you're wearing the armor, you have Resistance to Force damage. Additionally, if the armor normally imposes Disadvantage on Dexterity (Stealth) checks or has a Strength requirement, the Arkaan version of the armor doesn’t.
Weapon (Any Melee Weapon), Rare (Requires Attunement)
This magic weapon is made out of Arkaan, a dull black starmetal from Voidspace found mostly in meteorites. You gain a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this magic weapon. On a hit, the weapon deals an extra 1d6 Force damage. The extra damage increases by 1d6 if the target is an Aberration.
