"GLORY TO THE HOLY TEMPORAL EMPIRE, OUR LIVES ARE YOURS. REMAIN PERFECT BEYOND GODS, ACROSS EVEN THE SKIES."
"OM OLZAHL KHAZARUS ZARKAAVA, ZE KAELAI ZEA JAK. OLZHL AAVARAI GODUSAI ZORKOZ, OM ZAVARIAI KAZOHL SAATAR VAK."
The Temporal Empire (Olzahl Khazarus), simply referred to as "The Empire" or the "Omniborn Empire" during its heyday, was the largest nation to exist on Aurial before its destruction during the Cometfall. Its symbol was the 'Omniborn Trident', which represented their entire race.
Lasting for eight hundred years, the Temporal Empire is widely regarded as the greatest civilization to ever have existed on Abmarah. Back during the first era, it reigned supreme as the nation of the Omniborn, leading the way into the Golden Age of Abmarah.
Under its banner, Abmarah was far more magically advanced than it is in the modern day. The Empire used spelljammer ships to explore the starts above in Voidspace, colonizing and trading with far away planets.
The legendary founder and immortal-emperor of the empire was Khaz Draxal, alongside his consort Khaz Zaenak. These two immortal Omniborn led the nation as champions appointed by the gods. The empire stretched for nearly the entire length of the once-great continent of Aurial, only sharing it with the dwarven empire to the north and and the drow kingdoms in the Underdark.
The sheer dominance of the Omniborn gave them a fearsome reputation, as they slowly came to see themselves as the rightful rulers of the cosmos itself. The Temporal Empire came to be seen as the progenitor of civilization itself, and every empire to come would try to prove themselves a rightful successor.
While they were led by an emperor/khaz, the empire was more democratic than the kingdoms to follow. Every mortal who held land had a voice in the government, and could elect regional governors/zarios from amidst themselves to lead provinces of the empire for limited terms. The Khaz shared some power with elected generals and senators in the government, and the bureaucracy of the empire is legendary to this day.
In 1E875, Draxal rebelled against the gods by murdering the goddess Alphus in their capital city of Ikariyus. This kickstarted the Omniborn Crisis, a war between mortalkind and the gods. Abmarah itself came to a near complete destruction in the century of conflict that followed, ending with the Cometfall. The comet fell directly onto the Temporal capital, creating the Blood Sea. Alongisde that, the entire Omniborn race disappeared from existence, as if erased by Elder Mekalus himself.
Echoes and shards of the empire persist to the modern day. It can be said that the Great Kingdom of Terros, the Crimson Empire, and the Lunar Collective each claim to be the successor to the legacy of the Temporal Empire and the lands and influence it commanded. Many rulers have tried to take on the title of 'Khaz' that Draxal popularized, the word eventually becoming both the Eterian titles Khan & Khagan as well as the Terrosi title of Kaiser in this world.
Omniborn weapons were made out of Arkaan- Also known as Arkantium in modern days. It is a deadly metal to be used in weapon forging due to it's natural speed, durability, and sharpness. Arkaan is incredibly sharp, and even expert smiths have a hard time working with it safely. Most of the things made out of Arkaan are angular and polygonic, since making smooth curves out of Arkaan is difficult- Which is why most Omniborn swords are longswords. However, this also made it impressive to see curves of Arkaan, like the curved blade of Faithbreaker, or some larger Omniborn ships. Arkaan is also known for it's natural black color, with legends speaking of Omniborn armies wielding jet-black weapons. Arkaan does not corrode easily, but if it does corrode, it gains a blue tint.
Therefore, almost all basic soldiers had black swords. However, as an soldier received more honors and moved higher up in the ranking, their sword was reforged by the "Spellsmiths." When Arkaan is enchanted, the metal changes to a reddish color. The hilt becomes more decorated and intricate in design.
As such, many lieutenants had dark red blades. Captains had dull red blades, signifying more intricate spells woven into the metal. Majors had crimson blades, Colonels red, Generals bright red. When Arkaan is bright red, it signifies it has the most powerful spells already woven into it.
But that does not stop Spellsmiths. For even higher rankings of Marshals, the reforged sword had the bright-gold Giranium added to it, adding to the strength of the blade a hundredfold. As such, in the highest ranks, there were bright red swords with golden lines or carvings, usually alongside an intricate black hilt design.
Of course, many do not like swords as their weapon of choice. The Omniborn race enjoys immense physical strength, and many prefer the brute strength of war axes and maces, while some prefer spears or daggers. All these weapons were also made of Arkaan, and had similar spellsmithing.
The leaders of the military, however, had the best weapons spellsmiths can forge. These were Arkaan-Giranium weapons, in which even the Giranium was fully charged with in-woven spells, turning the usually bright-gold metal into a glowing bright-yellow shade, not unlike a star. There were only ten of these legendary weapons made, called the "Stars in the Darkness", or just the "Stars" for short. Legends speak of battles fought on cold dead rocks in the orbit of pitch black holes, lit only by the light of a single "Starsword."
