Omniborn

The Omniborn are one of the ancient species designed specifically for Abmarah. Created in the primordial era by Elder Mekalus, the omniborn were created for perfection and to be the perfect warriors. Said to be the dark counterparts to the original alves, they were created for perfection, created to fight, and created to serve. A divine servant species much like the elves, they were meant to be able to serve and help the gods. Omniborn had a variety of lineages, but generally most of them had four arms, somewhat unique horns, three to four eyes, and occasionally a tail. They formed what was the largest and grandest nation in the first era, the “Temporal Empire”. They spread across the lands and skies, and even into the stars beyond. However, one day they rebelled against their divine creators, and their empire started a war against the gods that marked the end of the first era. This cataclysmic war is now known as the omniborn crisis.

For a thousand years, the omniborn served the gods, and they served loyally. Their leader, Khaz Draxal, was one of the first omniborn created and was regarded as one of the elders. He was functionally immortal much like his wife Khaz Zaenak. He sowed distrust against the gods, and when the time came he started a war greater than any before and any since. They created weapons capable of slicing through gods and mortals alike, and objects with enough power to destroy planets. When the comet fell on their capital, the species all but disappeared from the entire cosmos, as if all of them vanished in the same second.

Some say that Mkealus wiped his creations from existence, while some say that the omniborn escaped to the future to come back one day. However, there are rumors here and there about omniborn that pop up throughout history, perhaps surviving their purge via magical stasis or any other such methods. It seems like any omniborn who weren’t technically “alive” during the disappearance of their species survived the ordeal. The omniborn culture was rich and diverse, and the reptilian humanoids developed many lineages. Their average lifespan was 200 years, but a few omniborn ended up using technology or magic to further extend it. Their emperor, Draxal, was one such example, as he lived for almost the entire duration of the species’ existence. If an omniborn served in the army and didn’t have a broken or damaged horn, they were considered weak. On the other hand, if they were high ranking and had spotless horns, it looped back around into a sign of respect as they would’ve been someone who’s been in many battles but were so skilled that they received no damage to their horns.

Their language was known as Omnikarn, and has influenced many other languages to this day. This conlang created for Abmarah is as important to the modern day in the setting as latin or sanskrit are for the real world. Omnikarn, despite being a fictional language, would fit into the indo-european language tree if it were real. On Abmarah, it is considered an arcane ancient language widely used in magical notation and other scholarly pursuits. In this world, many modern-day words, titles, and phrases are influenced by this language’s wide usage in the first era. While the conlang has many words and grammar rules, they haven’t been included in this book for brevity. The omnikarn script includes 9 vowels, 20 consonants, and 19 numerical symbols for a Base 20 vigesimal counting system. It only includes 3 punctuation marks, for a total of 51 glyphs. Many words from omnikarn are widely used even in the Kav’orra, such as the names of the months Freki, Vani, and Duni which correspond to omnikarn numerals. Another big example is House Zaaba getting their name from the omnikarn word for gold. Omniborn are rarely seen in the modern day, but rare survivors are spotted here or there having survived through stasis or petrification.

One of the only living creations of the Omniborn in the modern day are their loyal hunting companions, 'Ikani', also known as the Icarian Cats. These feline-like reptiles were bioengineered by the Omniborn to have greater reflexes and a tolerance to magic.

Even though their creators are now gone, many Ikani survived the cataclysm in the wilds. They are occasionally tamed by modern day humanoids, tending to favor Goliaths and Orcs due to their similarities to Omniborn.

Omniborn had many names derived from their own language of Omnikarn. They generally only had a single name with no family names, but did add rank suffixes to their names. Some example names for Omniborn PCs or NPCs are:

Racial Stats

When creating an Omniborn, you have to pick one of the three lineages. All lineages share the following traits:

Age. Omniborn reach adulthood by the age of 25 and tend to live up to 200 years without magical enhancement.

Alignment. With a strict meritocracy, most Omniborn tend to be Lawful.

Speed. Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Size. Omniborn are on average between 6-7 feet tall and are relatively muscular. Your size is medium.

Darkvision. You have more than two eyes, and can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light and in darkness as if it were dim light. You discern colors in that darkness only as shades of gray.

Created for Perfection. You have advantage on all Constitution saving throws.

Divine/Ancient Presence. You have proficiency in one of the following skills of your choice: Intimidation or Persuasion.

Secondary Arms. You have an extra pair of arms behind your primary pair of arms. The secondary arms function like your primary arms, with the following exceptions:

  • You can use a secondary arm to wield a weapon that has the light property, but you can't use a secondary arm to wield other kinds of weapons.

  • You can't wield a shield with a secondary arm.

Languages. You can speak, read, and write Common and Omnikarn.

Omniborn Lineage. You are part of a lineage that grants you additional abilities. Choose a lineage from the Omniborn Lineages table. You gain the features of the chosen lineage.

Lineage

Feature

Araiborn

Powerful Build. You count as one size larger when determining your carrying capacity and the weight you can push, drag, or lift.

Nokrborn

Tamers of the Arcane. As one of the first races to harness arcane power, your body has a natural tolerance to raw magic. You have resistance to force damage.

Zielborn

Ridged Grasp. Your hands and feet are also ridged, and allow you to hang onto difficult surfaces. You have a climbing speed of 30ft.

Araiborn

Also known as the “Pureborn”, they were the most common type of omniborn, with the distinctive reddish-brown skin. Built to be the perfect warriors, they were generally considered to be the epitome of physical strength compared to most other species at the time of their civilization’s height. It’s estimated that around two-thirds of all omniborn were araiborn by the end of the first era.

Nokrborn

These “blessed” omniborn had a blue-violet skin tone with white-black hair, evocative of their modern day vedavin cousins but with the ridged skin and horns of regular omniborn. Considered to be blessed by the gods and created to be mages, they culturally focused more on the arcane arts rather than physical supremacy. Many nokrborn used to live in underground cities across ancient Eqos, although all but a few have been left to ruin. Some of these legendary cities include Stearra and Nokren.

Zielborn

These “wood” omniborn had adapted to the thick jungles present across their lands. They were created to be custodians of the forests, and tended to be nimbler and more dexterous than other omniborn. They had brown wood-like skin with green-red shades in their hair evocative of leaves. More than any other omniborn lineage, zielborn tended to have four eyes instead of the usual three in addition to shorter horns that disappeared within their hair. They were the least populous of the lineages, and were found most commonly within the Kuan Dynasty of Eteru. It’s said that a population of zielborn used to live within the western eqosi forests as well.

Feats

In addition, Omniborn players have access to unique Species Feats that they can choose to take in addition to other General Feats. Species Origin Feats can be chosen during character creation replacing any Origin Feat you would’ve received from your background.

Mekalnokr (Species Origin Feat). Some prodigal Omniborn have had one or two tails since birth, or grow them after an ordeal. This is considered to be a sign of Elder Mekalus' blessing.

  • You have Advantage on Death Saving Throws.

  • You gain proficiency in Constitution saving throws.

Third Eye (Species Feat). Unlike most other Omniborn, you have honed the ability of your third eye to sense the unseen around you.

  • Increase one ability score of your choice by 1, to a maximum of 20.

  • As a bonus action, you gain Truesight with a radius of 30 feet for 1 minute. Once you use this feature, you must finish a long rest before you can use it again.
