The ruling dynasty and the Mahaan House of the city of Kasaaq, House Zaaba uses the symbol of a yellow-black scorpion. Their history is a history of Kasaaq itself, which we go into more detail later in the chapter. The Mahataraja and his family belong to House Zaaba, and their culture has spread to the rest of the desert over the past few centuries. The House also sets the religious tone of the nation as a whole, as they worship the stars and the goddess Saedevi.
Their history is a history of the dynasty itself, having started when their founder, a freed slave named Rakash Zaaba I, took over the city of Kasaaq from House Suryag.

Third of his name, Azani III rules fairly compared to his predecessors. Well aware of the atrocities committed by his father, Kretu II, he is not expansionist. He aims to strengthen the country as it is, and hold it together. Solemn yet strict, he does not make many public appearances, leaving all that to his charismatic son and heir, Vakram. He looks rather skinny instead of the healthy appearance of most rulers, leading to much speculation about his health.
