Kalashtar

Kalashtar are generally similar to their regular D&D counterparts as found in Eberron: Rising from the Last War and use the same statistics. However, their lore, origins, and nature differs greatly in our setting.

The Dreamborn, also known as the Kalashtar or the Dreamkin, are a planetouched race connected to the subconscious realm. They are a compound people created from the union of humanity and dream spirits. They are often seen as wise, spiritual people with great compassion for others, but there is an unmistakable alien quality to the Dreamborn as they are haunted by the conflicts of their two souls.

Kalashtar of Abmarah

They are most connected to the dreamplanes, and have innate telepathic abilties that let them reach out into the dreams and thoughts of others. Despite their innate link to dreams and emotions, they are severed from dreams themselves and do not connect to the Dreamplanes while sleeping. Instead, they can explore their memories at will while they rest. Dreamborn cannot directly communicate with their dream spirits, rather experiencing this relationship as a sense of instinct and inspiration.

They were created as a fusion of human monks and dream spirits from the Dreamplanes. Since then, they became their own planetouched race with both a dream spirit and a mortal born as one compound being with dual spirits.

They look much like humans and have the same ranges of eye, hair, and skin colors. They are commonly tall and slim, though Dreamborn of all sizes exist. Most Dreamborn live in monastic communities spread across Primerealm in both Abmarah and the Feywild. Some shadowy 'Nightmare Dreamborn' have been known to live in the Shadowfell.

Dreamborn are commonly reserved, tranquil and tend to spend significant time thinking something through before acting. They're kind and caring towards others though, in an intellectual manner rather than emotional. It is not known exactly why Dreamborn take a keen interest in controlling their emotions, but it is commonly believed to be due to the turmoil they suffer from their conjoined souls. Beneath their serene makeup, Dreamborn are at conflict within themselves, struggling to fend off insanity. At times they begin to lose that struggle, displaying confusing and sometimes dangerous behavior. Those who do not find a balance between their two souls end up corrupted and bi-polar, often known as Nightmare Dreamborn.
