Vasirr of the Great Hunt (formerly known as Vasirr of Goldheim) was a member of the Chimera party. He is a half-bilari acolyte raised by the Temple of Aklim in the Goldheim Rainforest.

After the inconclusive ending of the Tale of the Sunless Dunes campaign, Aklim regained her divinity and made Vasirr her champion. Vasirr became the leader of the 'Great Hunt', an organization dedicated against the Dark Hunt. He also started to look a lot more bestial, throwing away a lot of his humanity.

Biography

Early Life

Vasirr was an odd Bilari, in an odd situation. His mother, S'lani, was part of a nomadic clan who chose to explore the world, rather than settle in one place. During their travels near Thibasa, she met a human known then as Aldern Blazestrider, where the two immediately hit it off. Aldern vowed to throw away the life he had in Thibasa and be with her, even if it meant always traveling the world, and never truly having a place to call home. After some resistance from the clan elders, Aldern was allowed to travel with the clan, though in typical bilari fashion, no one was particularly friendly with the couple.

Fast forward another 16-ish months and Vasirr was born to the world. This was where the aforementioned oddness came from. Vasirr, who was named after a northern constellation, was neither bilari, nor human; and to top it all off, his father due to reasons unknown to him, had abandoned his family and left a few months before his birth.

His mother truly did try her best to not let her resentment against his father seep and manifest into hatred for Vasirr himself, but unfortunately for both of them, it was to no avail. To her, Vasirrs' whole existence became a painful reminder of a past she both longed for and regretted deeply. Even as a child, Vasirr could pick up on those feelings as light as day. His odd, human-like appearance also made most of the clan alienate him and his mother.

As the years went by, his mother became more and more distant, and the clan less and less concerned, despite his attempts at reconciliation with both. As one of the cons of a nomadic clan, he never got to attend any school or college, but the elders of the clan did teach basic languages and skills to the newborns; which he also learnt, by sitting in the corner of the elders tents, where none of the kids would notice him enough to ridicule him. Vasirr, however, never blamed any of them. As most children would, he accepted the way things were as the natural order. Besides, who would tell him any different even if he had had the courage to ask?

It was when he was around the age of 12, the clan was traveling through the western coast of Eqos, past the Km’mala Peaks, near the Goldheim Rainforest. As his clan settled down for the day, putting down their tents, his curiosity for this new land made him go and explore the rainforest;, plus, there was nothing he could do for the clan anyway. He thought for a second, to tell his mother where he’s going, but knew enough to know it would either be met with a despondent shrug, or nothing at all. So, as he separated from the group, he ran through the forest at what would normally be considered breakneck speeds, that is, had he not had Tabaxi blood in him. He stumbled across an abandoned looking decrepit stone monastery, covered in vines and moss. He ended up being adopted by the leader of this Temple of Aklim.

As he made his way inside, curious to see if he’d find any old trinkets or ornaments left behind by the inhabitants, but he immediately recoiled, as his eyes met those of a Saurian. He had heard of their existence from the elders but never actually seen them; but was able to quickly make the connection.

“You needn’t hide, little cub.” said the Saurian with a raspy voice in perfect Payit.

“Well aren’t you an odd looking Bilari.” Vasirr lowered his eyes after hearing a sentence that was all too familiar to his ears. Before Vasirr even had the chance to run, the Saurian placed a hand on his head as he ruffled his hair. “Would you like something to eat? You look pretty tired.”

This seemingly normal interaction between the adult and a child made the abnormal Vasirr break down on the spot, leaving the Saurian extremely confused, slightly guilt-ridden, and profusely calling for backup. Over the next few hours, Ashra, the Saurian that had found him, told Vasirr about Aklim, the goddess they worshiped, and the purpose the monastery served. He purposefully avoided any mention of his clan or his mother; as he much preferred the company of these monks, as weird as he may have thought them to be. But surprisingly, the secrets of a twelve year old aren’t that hard to decipher for an adult. Though they realized what they would be sending him back to and the situation he was in, a monastery of hunters, rangers and monks was no place for a child; he would be better off with his clan.

After a bit of coaxing, they managed to take Vasirr back to his camp, where they found…nothing. The monks questioned Vasirr, doubting his words only to see the signs of a hurried departure moments after. Vasirr stood there, unable to utter a word. Not even tears dared to flow at the sheer rage of emotions Vasirr contained. Ashra silently hugged the child, almost coiling his snake-like body around him. While he knew he couldn’t ease the pain, but he couldn’t help but try.

After a long and arduous discussion among the thirty or so members of the monastery, they decided they needed the guidance of the one they held most dear. They decided they’d give the child a holy symbol of Aklim; a symbol that selected only those worthy of her service. It was something that every member in the monastery had as the symbol proved one’s devotion to Aklim.

“Forgive me for this terrible betrayal of your trust, Aklim.” said Ashra as he took off his holy symbol from his long neck. As the symbol touched his skin green scaly, it began to glow. While the light was dim, it seemingly lit up the room with a majestic aura. Ashra placed the necklace-like symbol around Vasirr, who had been fast asleep for the past few hours, probably due to exhaustion.

The symbol had no reaction; there was not a photon in sight.

“She has spoken,” said Ashra in a slightly disappointed tone. As he was about to remove the symbol, it started to shine dimly. First, like an ember; then a torch, and then, a bonfire. As bright light hit every corner of the room, Vasirr's fate was sealed. He would not remember this moment, but it would be the starting point of his very being.

He spent the next twelve years at the monastery, serving Aklim, and carried out her judgment. For once, curiosity had saved this cat.

The Temple of Aklim has a very small following these days with the overbearing presence of the Pantheon of Eights from the east. The man who took Vasirr in, an elderly saurian named Ashra, taught him all he could in the temple of maybe 20 people. A goddess of hunting, Aklim demands nature be kept in balance and for her followers to be great hunters much like herself.

One of the rites of passage of the temple is to hunt down a great beast. Some of his superiors in the temple boasted of having hunted down giant sharks, hydras, perytons... Ashra himself does not boast about whatever he did on his journey as a young initiate, but others say that he took down a dragon.

The Temple tries to do the best it can to keep nature in balance and hunt down those who try to disrupt it. Some years back, they found out that the delicate ecosystem of the nearby Kav'orra Desert was being magically influenced- normal animals turned into monstrous versions of themselves, and magical sandstorms destroying what little alcoves of life the desert sustains. They sent out Vasirr on a quest to find out and stop whatever is doing this, and maybe hunt down his destined prey in the process.

After the Campaign

Aklim regained her divinity and made Vasirr her champion. Vasirr became the leader of the 'Great Hunt', an organization dedicated against the Dark Hunt. He also started to look a lot more bestial, throwing away a lot of his humanity. He married Serenya, a bilari wizard who was the archivist within the Great Hunt. With her, he had a daughter named Lumae. She was often plagued by prophetic dreams, and once had a prophetic dream about Vasirr's death but he didn't pay too much attention to it.

In 3E483 during Shards of the Empire, 15 years after Sunless Dunes, Vasirr took Siceois to Shatterrealm to fight in the Shatterworld Tournament to save Primerealm. In Round 1, Ser Gerion & Baron Gideon faced off against Vasirr and Siceois. The fight went on for a while until Vasirr realized that this was wasting Primerealm resources, calling off the fight and having a conversation with the new party. He spectated the rest of the tournament, almost getting hit during the final fight the Krono Krew had with Khaz Jiik Han. After Primeworld victory was ensured, Vasirr and Siceois headed back to Abmarah before things got bad.

In 3E498 during The Light of Lunaria, the invasion of the Dark Hunt truly drew near. Vasirr and the Great Hunt suddenly went missing, and were unable to be contacted. A single sending spell had reached Viera Blackreyne, who alongside Zahn Zwei and Dravin Bahubaahu went to the Goldheim Rainforest. The three ran into many Dark Hunters, and then the god Gammus commanded in their minds to leave. Viera refused, and the three engaged the Dark Hunt, disappearing for a few years. Within the demiplane known as the Hunting Grounds, Vasirr saw his acolytes paused in time, and met Kai Li again. Later, they met Viera Blackreyne, Zahn Zwei, and Dravin Bahubaahu and helped them fight against the Dark Hunt. Zahn forged Azbaan bullets capable of ending a god, and the group managed to kill Gammus for good, returning to Goldheim. Aklim congratulated Vasirr but told him to be ready for the Dark Hunt's invasion within a few days.
