Shōgun Kagegojuu Aite is the leader of the Cinoh Shogunate. She ascended the throne at age 22 in 3E452 during Act 2 of Curse of the Blood Sea. She did so by collluding in a plot with her lover Daimaō Damien to assassinate both her father, Kagegojuu Iwale, as well as her brother, Kagegojuu Miyoshi.
While she wasn't deposed outright, she was brought to justice by the Phoenix Nebula and had to agree to turn Cinoh into a more constitutional government. She has ruled for decades since then, becoming the first female Shōgun and the second woman ever to rule the island of Cinohshima.
An incredibly powerful mage, she learned the spellcraft from the rangda hag Baba Setani. Aite is known for her incredible charm and deviousness that she learned from all her teachers over the years, something innate to her own Oniling nature.
While she started out her rule unpopular, her actions in saving the country from the demon invasion of the Abyssgate as well as policies that aided in its industrialization and better naval prowess have led to her increased popularity among the common people.
While Aite was older than her brother, she always knew that her brother would inherit the throne due to male-preference succession. She allegedly loved her family, and wasn't as 'twisted' early on.
In 3E442 during the events of Demon of the Carnival, 12 year old Aite was kidnapped by men working for Daimaō Niseki, the patriarch of the Akumakai Clan. While she was rescued by some heroes, she met a young Daimaō Damien while she was being held in the Akumakai fortress. They kept a good friendship even after these events.
Following this, her father wanted her to learn how to defend herself using magic. The rangda hag-kami, Baba Setani, convinced Iwale to let her teach Aite. Alongside Aite, one of her other students was Damien. She taught the both of them magic and dark arts, often taking them to the mystical Mt. Yukiba.

In 3E450, the the crew of the Phoenix Nebula visited Port Cinoh and met her father. While they worked for him, they interacted with Aite while she still pretended to be an innocent and naive girl. She expressed an interest in Sif as she had never seen a Kenku before, and remarked that she found Urata Anlyth attractive.
Two years later in 3E452, she hatched a plan with her now-lover Damien to depose her father and put Damien and herself in charge of the country owing to his popularity. They successfully got her father Iwale assassinated, leading to Aite becoming acting-shōgun while her brother was still a minor. She let the appearance of her brother leading the country continue, something that fooled even him.
When the crew of the Nebula returned to Cinoh and tried to investigate Damien, she pretended to support them. While she never intended for her brother to die, she did not oppose Damien in his decision to murder him. Once her treachery was finally revealed, many turned against her and everything culminated in a final battle against her and Damien within the Cinohan throne room. When things looked dire, Aite even tried to call down a large meteor swarm that could've destroyed much of the city, but was counterspelled.
"Fuchi-kun, honestly, an eye for an eye- You murdered my brother, it's only fair, in a way."
- Aite putting a calming spell on Damien after he learned of his sister's death.
Upon Damien's death at the hands of D'vorah, she broke down in tears at the death of her lover. This brief moment of weakness gave chance for Urata Anlyth to depose her and take the throne, but he refused to do so. Instead, the Nebula and the other powerful people present like Monk Kazeshi forced Aite to agree to a democratic council stripping her of many of her powers, essentially turning the country into a democratic monarchy. She agreed, and seemed to move on from Damien's death very quickly.
Some weeks later, she visited Countess Fenya Cetrovna in her casino ship where she met the Nebula again. She refused to take any sides between the Nebula and the Lunars who wanted to arrest them. Aite helped defend the city from the demon invasion a few months later when the Abyssgate opened, proclaiming Cinoh's strength and victory when the world was saved. She then changed the laws of succession to be equal-preference to let more women succeed to the throne.
A few years later in 3E455 during the events of The Hag of Mount Yukiba, Monk Kazeshi and the kami Kinuye-no-Yukiba hatched a plan to have brave adventurers defeat Aite's teacher Baba Setani before she could ascend and became an okami. They believed that she still held a lot of sway over Aite, and wanted to sacrifice Aite to ascend to godhood. They successfully defeated Baba Setani even after she possessed the rotting corpse of Damien, finally ending her evil for good.
