Dr. Lord Volnax Blackwood the First, also known by his original draconic name Volnaxokaaz, is a black dragon that often takes human form. An artificer, he was defeated by Emperor Sombra and then sworn to serve the Crimson Empire. He was allowed to set up the Blackwood Institute of Science on Jasiv where he and his half-dragon son were allowed to conduct biological experiments.
He is also well known as one of the principal designers and creators of the Warforged race during the The Great Aurian War.
He was defeated during the Siege of Tikius in 3E452 by the crew of the Phoenix Nebula during the events of CotBS.
Biography
Volnaxokaaz was an incredibly intelligent black dragon who made his lair near the Everswamp. He was always interested in machinery as well as the biological inner workings of his torture victims.
His reign was brought to an end when he was hunted down and defeated by Emperor Sombra in 3E095 when he was 207. Sombra let him live, and in exchange Volnax swore fealty to the Crimson Empire. He was allowed to create a laboratory on Jasiv that eventually became the Blackwood Institute of Science.
Volnax truly rose to prominence during the The Great Aurian War in 3E220 when he helped in the design and mass-production of the Warforged race to aid in the war. He also helped developed many blackpowder weapons and industries for the Jakunists to oppose the Lunar artificers. He would then help make further warforged known as Faithforged and Siegeforged for the Crimson Army.
In 3E366, he had a half-dragon child that he also ended up naming Volnax Blackwood. By this time, he was enjoying his noble status amidst the Crimson upper class. His experiments were also bearing fruit.

In 3E452, he met the crew of the Phoenix Nebula when they were traveling by Fort Rawan. He didn't pay them any mind then, but he was soon forced by Grand Admiral Isabeau to transform into a dragon and attack the city of Tikius during a siege. He also attacked the city using his Siegeforged automatons. Filling the city with noxious fumes and acid pools, he almost won had it not been for the Phoenix Nebula who ended up defeating both him and his siegeforged. They slayed him, and then also destroyed much of his research in the Blackwood Institute.

3E452 - He was forced by Grand Admiral Isabeau to attack and siege Tikius, and was slain by the crew of the Phoenix Nebula during Curse of the Blood Sea.
