This one-shot was played in May 2022. It focused on a group of students called 'the Misfits' studying in the prestigious Carminus Universum partaking in the annual game of Magetower against a team of rival students.

The gang eats food in their dorms, discussing the upcoming exams along with William. They eventually head over to the exam room and give their exams, Leo helping Jin cheat at the subjects he is weak in while Itsha and Kerk argue with the invigilator a bit. After the exams, they get bullied by Rachel and the orc jock. After some arguments, Professor Hanekoma enters and explains the rules of Magetower- a capture-the-flag kind of game that they're all going to be playing. The group returns to the dorms, and prepares well by shopping and studying the maps of the forest.
After class, the group travels into the nearby magically-enchanted forest and starts to scout around. Eventually deciding to claim the riverside fort, they head there before getting cornered by a pack of wolves. After dispatching of them, the group claims the fort. At the professor's suggestion, they continue to scout around, including the snowy tower, Itsha sending snakes to the other Fort, as well as the open Fort ruins. Finding out that Rachel and Varek are claiming the tower, the group returns to the fort and calls the professor using the sending stone- teleporting back to the dorms. After the next class, the group gets their results first. Rachel bullies them over their grades, leading to an all-out argument in which the two groups vow to beat each other. Garfeld realizes that the two might summon something, maybe a devil-like thing. They make their strategy against them.
The game of Magetower begins, as the group splits into two- Offense and Defense. On the defense side, Jin, Paul, and Leo defend their flag from a summoned bone devil named Dingleberry. It is a difficult fight in which Leo and Paul struggle to survive, but they eventually manage to defeat the fiend. On the other hand, Kerk, Itsha, and Garfeld fly to the tower across the river using their purchased boots of flying. Landing on top of the building, they look down at the two and fight. Rachel, a cleric of Varkanus, uses her blood magic to control Itsha while Varek wild shapes into a large ape. After a close fight during which Kerk uses the stride spell to become a bit like a phoenix, Itsha manages to take down both of them. As the groups meet back at their own Fort with Rachel's flag, the professor contacts them and tells them about a surprise Phase 3. The army has been spectating all this, and to test out the winning teams, they'd challenge them on any of the gates. Just so happens, the gate the group decides to leave through has Hanekoma guarding it. He summons an undead knight to help him, as the group fights against their homeroom teacher, eventually besting him. They become the first group to get out of the forest, the Misfits getting a resounding cheer even from Rachel and Varek.
