"I like your body."
—Nyx's literal first words, said to Elise.

Nyx, also known by his fake name "Yoruu", was a part of the Phoenix Nebula party. A monk of the Shidono Temple in Port Cinoh, he was an on-and-off member of the party.

He served as Devaanshu's first character in Curse of the Blood Sea. He then retired the character, replacing him with D'vorah.

Biography

Early Life

Nyx grew up in the chaotic system of Dindia, eventually making his way to Port Cinoh. Originally trying to be an actor and entertainer, one cold winter he ended up nearly dying near the Shidono Temple.

A monk named Yoru took him in, but due to Nyx's paranoia and fear, he killed the monk and took his place. Monk Kazeshi, the leader of the temple, realized this but still kept him on hoping for a redemption.

Eventually however the monks got sick of him, and banished him from the temple. He then wandered all across the Blood Sea, as well as the Crimson Empire.

Curse of the Blood Sea

3E450 - Genso's Plague

After spending some years on the Aurian mainland, he met Anlee, Sif, Laoch, Elise, and Pete aboad the Teal Star, a merchant ship ferrying them to Port Cinoh. However, they were boarded by Deeprose pirates, and marooned at Tikius. There, they ended up within the service of Pirate Lord Belanar Gullis. They got involved in his investigation into the Deeprose Pirates and their leader, Roonan Deeprose, who seemed to be working with a mysterious 'Dr. Genso' in creating an abyssal plague which threatened Tikius and the rest of the Blood Sea. They also met many people there who would become mainstays later on, such as Xoe, Amari, Rumfuck, and Gary.

While they were on Tikius, the crew also found out about the supervolcanic nature of the island and the elemental who threatened the city, nicknamed Pyrovain. The party was given the repaired Teal Star (renamed the Argent Star) and traveled to Fort Rawan, meeting Commodore Zolen and Dr. Baizo, as well as picking up Shoila and the quetzalcoatlus egg that would later hatch to become Duck Norris. At the Anchorage of Whispers, they met Xaniv the Whisperer for the first time and faced off against Captain Roonan. They defeated him and arrested him, forgave Shoila for her betrayal, but the Deeprose crew escaped on their ship. Nyx by now had grown very close to Elise Pearlwynd, even having a foursome with her and one of her exes as well as Zorahim while transformed as Shoila. On their way back to Tikius, the crew came across a meteorite and an aberrant otherworldly monster, a Formless Spawn that traumatized Nyx. At Tikius, they defeated Pyrovain and saved the city.

The crew continued onward towards Port Cinoh while it was hosting the Seven's Carnival. There, they met Monk Kazeshi of the Shidono Temple, who refused to take Yoruu back unless he beat them in a fight. With the help of his new friends, he passed the trial, and Monk Kazeshi revealed that he knew of his lies from the beginning. They then met Shogun Kagegojuu Iwale who informed them that the Aekai yakuza's leader, Singularity, had kidnapped Dr. Baizo. They traveled to his complex across the island, but ended up learning that his son was possessed by an aberrant demon. They helped him exorcise his son, but had to fight and kill a possessed Singularity. The crew then went back to Port Cinoh, and helped Elise defeat her rival Uragan in a bard-off. Nyx then met Uragan while transformed into Uragan, appealing to his ego and sleeping with him.

The crew then continued onwards to the island of Yube, where Genso's lab was located. They were ambushed by a juvenile kraken that guarded the island, which destroyed the Argent Star in the fight. They also found a wrecked Deeprose, and its crew imprisoned by the Varkanist cultists. They helped free the crew, and got a heading of Taltigo. The combined crew took over the Deeprose, and renamed it 'the Phoenix Nebula'. At Taltigo, they met Pirate Lord Lady Lyn as well as her assassin, Zai, another changeling. They worked for her a bit, and Nyx eventually freed Zai from Lyn's service using a pirate coin. Zai disappeared for a bit to think about her feelings and collect her thoughts, and while she did join the party she didn't reciprocate Nyx's feelings much to his dislike. However, the two eventually found common ground as friends. Sif went to check up on the Lilypad Orphange that she funded. They learned that one of the tiefling children was kidnapped for a sacrificial ritual by the Varkanus Cult. They then went into the sewers to fight one of the cult leaders, Yulis. Sif and Nyx faced off against the cultists and saved the child while the others dealt with Yulis.

The Nebula then traveled back to Taltigo, where they had the ship repaired. Near Gravesbry, they were arrested by the Crimson Navy and forced to become privateers by Admiral Isabeau. At Isla Tumba, they met a young boy named Can who helped them find some treasure- a sealed iron flask. The crew then traveled underwater in a submarine apparatus to meet the storm giant Amohr, who after testing their strength, revealed to them the location of the Black Scroll of Varkun that Genso was after, a temple on Darkgrove Isle. The crew traveled there, and in the temple Dr. Baizo revealed that he never even saw Genso. Nyx instinctively transformed into Genso in front of Baizo, who then suddenly went insane. They discovered that Dr. Baizo was Dr. Genso all along, a split personality even he wasn't aware of. The crew managed to defeat him, and decided to return the black scroll to Amohr for safety. They decided to split ways, Nyx deciding to travel the world by himself much like Monk Kazeshi once did.

3E452 - The Abyssgate

Unbeknownst to Nyx, the party actually ran into the real presumed-dead Yoru within a shadowy glade in Cinoh. They ended up banishing him back into the Shadowfell.

After two years traveling by himself, Nyx met the party again in a female-form when they were trying to reconvene the Pirate Court to save the world from the Abyssgate and Xaniv the Whisperer. He joined them for a while while D'vorah was studying in Sombus, helping recruit Fenya Cetrovna and exorcise his fellow-monk Boz's alter-ego, Zob. Back in Taltigo, they met Lady Lyn who was being charmed by an incubus archdevil named Qarex. Nyx came up with a plan to charm Qarex, which immediately backfired and started a fight in which everyone almost died. Nyx ended up losing an arm, as well as actually dying. In the fugue plane, he saw his god Ashus save him from Varkanus. He was then revived by Elise, and in his shame and despair, left the party for good. After the campaign's end, Zai tried searching for him. It's implied that Zai did meet with Nyx again on her travels and sent him back to Shidono Temple.

After the Abyssgate

After his search for himself was over, Nyx ended up re-joining Shidono Temple and Monk Kazeshi for good. He was even spotted alongside Monk Kazeshi during the events of The Hag of Mount Yukiba in 3E455.
