The Alfuin Badlands are a vast expanse of rough and dry desert-like terrain in central Eteru. Before the Omniborn Crisis, this region used to be called the Alfuin Meadows. It was a large flat region full of lavender-violet grasses and trees infused with magical energies. The arcana imbued within the region was so potent that many floating islands hovered above the fields. However, during the cataclysmic Crisis, the meadows were torn apart and the surface collapsed into the Underdark below. The floating isles also crashed down and became jagged violet spikes made of crystallized magic. This devastation turned the area into sundered badlands, and exposed the drow there to the harsh surface. Their society, known as the Mourning Court, developed a new culture of venerating the moons and scorning the sun now called Môrism. Furthermore some years later at the end of the crisis, a small piece of the comet broke off during the Cometfall and crashed into the badlands, creating a large crater in the center that became the location of the city of Mothhai.
The badlands are situated in a large gap between the Lueni Mountains to the north and the Tianling Range to the south. They start from the Wildhyth in the west, and used to extend all the way to the eastern coast of the continent before the eastern half of Alfuin was consumed by fungus and became the Mornrot Fields.
By the third era, much of the uneven terrain is still inhospitable to most forms of plant-life. Dry grasses and desert crops are the only fauna present in the region as its inhabitants try to restore its former habitability.
