Vemanuru (ವೇಮನೂರು) is a small port city within the the Varkunasam Rainforest situated on the banks of a deep river. It is located between Wesamala and Chirutapalli, and is the largest city with a vanara majority population. The city is named after Sant Wemana, the legendary vanara hero and their patron deity. Though it once used to be the location of a local vassal chiefdom, in the modern day it is known primarily as a manufacturing hub and the headquarters of the Adike Consortium. Most of the outskirts around the river are plantations owned by the Consortium that grow various cash crops, especially areca or betel nuts. Despite the Consortium’s vows of sustainability, much of the natural forests around the city have been cleared away to make way for their plantations and factories. Three major bridges connect the two banks of the river, with one of them potentially being converted into a railway track sometime in the future.
