Theratis the Veiled Matron, also known as Thetus or Therahti, is the goddess of the afterlives and death. All souls eventually find themselves in her realm, to be judged and sent to the fitting afterlife. Her small plane that sits in between the nine heavens and the nine hells is known as Azydos. She serves as a part of the trio of death, alongside Ashus and Aethys. She is mostly known to be serious and hardworking, but can find amusement in the little things. Theratis is the only major draconic deity other than Kosmos, being an obsidian dragon that can take humanoid form. She is considered to be the first gem dragon, and the third dragon to ever exist. The other two draconic gods Tidāhi and Tiamat did not survive the Omniborn Crisis, so all Dragons and Dragonborn now only worship her.

She took over the role as the goddess of the afterlives after the former god of death, Moros, ironically died during the Omniborn Crisis. Many speculate that his death could have in part been caused by Theratis who wanted to usurp his power. Some myths claim that she and the archdevil Krros are married since they have a daughter together named Efika, but the true reality of divine relationships is hard to comprehend.

The symbols most attributed to Theratis are her signature bident, as well as her magical veil.

She is venerated as the primary goddess of death by almost all the people of Abmarah, and is venerated alongside Ashus during the festival of Ashrest when people pay respects to the dead. She is also the patron goddess of the Veiled Guard, an order of undead-hunters that protect the Kav’orra Desert from the Undead Sands.
