Monk Kazeshi is the Abbot in charge of Shidono Temple, a monastery within Port Cinoh that worship Ashus and the long death. He is also the currently appointed Master of Prayers for the Cinoh Shogunate and on the council of the government.
He is a rare form of 'positive' undead, as his undeath has been blessed by the god of death Ashus. He only lives so long his god wills him to, and despite his appearance he is considered to be a saint in Cinoh.
Biography
Early Life
Kazeshi was born in the newly established nation of the Cinoh Shogunate in 3E118 in the city of Port Cinoh. He was born to simple fishermen, and later wished to join Shidono Temple as a monk when he was a teenager.
As he described much later on, this desire to join the monastery of death came to him after he witnessed a turtle get caught up in his father's net one day and die. Empathizing with the animal, the young Kazeshi was drawn to Shidono Temple.
Journey across Aurial
As a part of his trials, Kazeshi left Cinoh to travel across Aurial in search of knowledge. He's said to have visited all the way to the north end of the continent at Uppborg. When he was 20, he was visiting the city of Dawress during the events of The Hunt for Justice in 3E138. He helped a party of hunters locate a werewolf within the woods around the city that he had been mapping out. Later, when the hunters realized that the werewolf was innocent and the tyrannical king of the city was at fault, he supported them in their decision and later helped bring democracy to the city.
Abbot of Shidono Temple
In 3E180, when he was 62, the previous head monk of Shidono Temple chose to pass away. He chose Kazeshi as his successor, and bequeathed upon him the blessing of positive undeath. Although Kazeshi remained alive for many more decades to come, a true natural death never reached him. He simply got older and older, withering away slowly until he looked like a skeleton.
In 3E446, one cold winter a changeling named Nyx ended up nearly dying near the Shidono Temple. A monk named Yoru took him in, but due to Nyx's paranoia and fear, he killed the monk and took his place. Kazeshi, realized this but still let him stay there hoping for a redemption. Eventually however the monks got sick of him, and banished him from the temple.
Curse of the Blood Sea
In 3E450, Nyx and the rest of the Phoenix Nebula visited Shidono Temple. Kazeshi refused to take Yoruu back unless he beat them in a fight. With the help of his new friends, Nyx passed the trial, and Monk Kazeshi revealed that he knew of his lies from the beginning, pardoning him.
Later in 3E452, after the death of Shogun Iwale, Kazeshi was one of the few who suspected Princess Aite of treachery alongside Damien Daimao. He supported the crew of the Nebula in their investigation into the matter, and had the monks of Shidono Temple help the Nebula fight against Aite's guards. Kazeshi then became a supporter of democracy once more, helping turn Cinoh into a constitutional monarchy. He became one of the councillors to the Shogun, the Master of Prayers.
Three years later in 3E455 during the events of The Hag of Mount Yukiba he helped the kami Kinuye-no-Yukiba recruit people who would help end Baba Setani's reign of evil. Setani had been the Master of Whispers for the past three years, and Kazeshi had long known of her true nature and control of Aite.
Timeline
3E118 - Kazeshi is born in Port Cinoh.
3E134 - At 16, he decides to join Shidono Temple.
3E138 - While on his journey of discovery, a 20 year old Kazeshi helps out the hunters in Dawress during the events of The Hunt for Justice.
3E180 - Kazeshi becomes the Abbot of Shidono Temple at age 62, receiving the blessing of positive undeath.
3E446 - He banishes Yoruu from Shidono Temple despite giving him a second chance.
3E450 - He meets the Phoenix Nebula and Yoruu again during Act 1 of Curse of the Blood Sea. After testing Yoruu's resolve, he pardons him as Nyx.
3E452 - During Act 2 of Curse of the Blood Sea, Monk Kazeshi helps the Nebula investigate the death of the Shogun and expose Princess Aite's treachery. Later, he officially welcomes back Nyx to the temple.
3E455 - Monk Kazeshi helps Kinuye-no-Yukiba gather adventurers at Shidono Temple who finally defeat the evil of Baba Setani during the events of The Hag of Mount Yukiba.
