Keningjei (ꯀꯦꯅꯤꯡꯖꯩ) is a town within the Kenal Valley of the Km’mala Peaks. For thousands of years, it used to be the capital and largest city of the northern dragonborn as compared to its sister city of Koorjing. By the third era, it had a population of an estimated fifty thousand residents due to the nourishment of the temperate valley and Lake Mawlok. However, the city was razed down in 3E003 during the War of Km’mala. After the death of Mahataraja Kretu Zaaba I, his successor Mahataraja Kuuja Zaaba I conquered and razed Keningjei as well as much of the Kenal Valley, reducing its fertility. Over the next decade, tensions calmed down and the dragonborn of Koorjing joined the Kasaaqi Hukumat under House Anganba. The Kenal Valley and the ruins of Keningjei were resettled over the next centuries as fertility and grasslands slowly started to return to the razed land. By 3E470, Keningjei has become a large town on the coast of Lake Mawlok with more than three thousand residents.

The ruins of the old city are half buried in the ground and otherwise too dilapidated to be restored, but the new residents have managed to repurpose some of the better preserved buildings like the old castle as well as the ancient temple dedicated to Therahti.

Despite the loyalty that Koorjing has fostered for the Hukumat over the centuries, the families and clans who were displaced and murdered during the razing of Keningjei still hold grudges against Kasaaq and House Zaaba. These dissident voices have mostly been silenced by House Anganba as part of their pact with the Hukumat. The old ruling clans of Keningjei have lost their claims to the city’s lands, but some of their descendants became the first settlers of the new town within the ruins of the old city. There is no political leadership or family controlling the town yet, as it is still administratively under House Anganba’s control. However, some of the stronger families of the town have been trying to get the coveted ascension into a mahaan house.
