Omegus, also known as Mawekh and Mamwet, used to be the balance creator god and the god of evolution. He sought more power, and for his sins he was hunted down and ‘killed’ by Krakus. However, he rose back up as a god-lich, becoming the voidal patron god of undeath and necromancy. Nowadays, he creates dark arts shunned by the other gods, Jakuna and Varkanus alike. His former role as the balance creator was eventually given to Ultros. He is the brother of Magmus, and clashes with him almost every time they cross paths. His personality is in direct opposition to his brother’s short temper, being incredibly reserved and calm- but just as terrifying when he does get angered. The two are said to be the children of Ashus through a union between the titan and the primordial personification of Azydos itself.
Some myths believe that Aethys stole a part of Omegus' soul to create the three Bilari gods Atrius, Aklim, and Aesin.
He is primarily worshiped now by death cults and necromancers. The center of his worship became the dread city of al-Fahim in Eqos, the spot where he achieved lichdom. His former followers from when he was a creator god either turned to Vertum or followed him in his turn to necromancy.
Omegus has caused a differentiation between views of necromancy, with the negative associations being attributed to the remaining followers of Orcus; while some of the followers of Omegus argue for 'ethical necromancy' in which they intend to only resurrect corpses donated to them and maintain their quality and respect even in undeath. However, this ethical and positive necromancy has never actually been attained by any follower of Omegus.
The world is balanced through creation and destruction, but has been unbalanced for too long. In jakunist traditions, there were four destroyer gods: Elder Dobuna, the Supreme Destroyer; Krros, the Orderly Destroyer; Magmus, the Balanced Destroyer; and Varkanus, the Chaotic Destroyer. Similarly, there were four creator gods: Elder Mekalus, the Supreme Creator; Vertum, the Orderly Creator; Omegus, the Balanced Creator; and Mutrev, the Chaotic Creator.
However, only Mekalus and Vertum ended up staying true to their purpose. Both Omegus and Mutrev strayed from their duties over time, tempted by greater powers than gods. Mutrev was the first to stray, as he abandoned chaos in favor of order. He left his position empty to take over the vacant position of Dimensus becoming the new god of the realms. His position was replaced by the new chaotic creator, Quanus. However, the greater betrayal was that of Omegus.
He saw the futility of creation during the destruction of the cosmos at the end of the first era. The Omniborn Crisis made him more a destroyer than a creator, and he lost sight of his purpose. While that is the generally accepted view of his betrayal, in truth, he had sought higher power as his ambition grew unchecked. He wanted to break free from the limitations of balance, order, and chaos and sought to become an voidic Elder God, a position he assumed was unfilled. He committed his great act of betrayal on the Day of Death, 18-12-2E017. Mawekh created a portal to the negative energy plane in the city of al-Fahim, killing all non-undead life in a split second and absorbing undeath. This infused the Undead Sands with true necromantic energy instead of the darkness that reigned already.
Jakuna sent the god-killer Krakus to hunt him down, but he was too late. Krakus struck Omegus down in the middle of his spell, destroying his divine form. Unfortunately, Omegus rose anew as a god-lich, having become a voidal god of undeath claiming dominion over necromancy. The gods were forced to accept his new role by necessity, especially a few years later in 2E020 when Omegus invaded the Abyss. Orcus' sloth and carelessness made him vulnerable within his abyssal palace, and he was slain by Omegus using Azbaan. Omegus then took over rulership of Orcus' layer of the Abyss and reshaped it in his own image. Omegus decreed that Orcus' name be erased from all recorded existence, and his wand hidden away. However, some say that Orcus can never truly be killed, and that he shall be restored one day and reclaim both his wand and his divinity from Omegus. The role of Balanced Creator was unfulfilled for almost a millennia until the ascension of Ultros.
